Artist Statement:
My fascination is working with colour and texture influenced by the natural world. I love the ocean, the magic of tide pools and the forest floor. The small glimmers of colour that pop out, glimpses of brightness in everyday and I always feel (touch, caress?) as well as look.
I prefer irregularities rather than regularities, but at the same time my orderly mind balks at that – it wants to produce polished finished pieces – but no, I love randomness! another part insists.
This set of pieces (selected by a friend) were experiments, ‘what if’ and ‘wow that’s interesting’ being key words in producing them, with the process being the fascination as much as the outcome. The joyous slapping around of paint, pieces of fabric, collage materials – what fun.

Joyce Stone lives in southern England within walking distance of the sea. She loves patterns and colours, tide pools, forest floors and canopies. She has wandered the world in awe at what is out there.
Joyce laughingly calls herself a serial dabbler of art and craft (or less politely a craft slut). She reckons that hopping around from one technique to another becoming an expert in none is much more fun, you can read there – ‘gets easily bored!’
She has a background in the sciences, curiosity and wonder and has collected degrees as well as seashells and rocks along the way. Her joy of creating includes intricate bead work, jewelry, fabric art, and painting.
