Karen Faris

Welcome to my work.

Artist Statement

Rather than have one milieu, I have many, and consider myself a project-based artist moving between performance, installation, visual arts and the written word. Curiosity and exploration lead this journey and often allow me to end up in unexpected places.

I began my artistic path as a poet, writer, and lover of words in all forms. But language has limits that left many spaces impossible to articulate. Gradually, I began to realize that visual arts and the written word could be combined into a middle ground with a rich, fertile soil in which to grow my ideas. It is in this middle ground that my work lives and challenges you to think about the world around us. Bright colors, emotion, feminism, climate change, and social justice, are a few of the themes interwoven into the work. I hope you travel further with me on this journey. I thank you for your presence, however temporary it may be.

Karen Faris works across the artistic spectrum and creates in order to escape the constraints of gravity. She has been published in various literary journals, has done pop up art projects, and had a piece in the 2019 Rochester Fringe Festival. She lives in Rochester, NY where she continues to dream up new projects.
